PROVIDENCE, R.I. - For the third time this season,
Isabella Pota (East Meadow, N.Y.) and
Madison Preston (Brookfield, Conn.) were named Little East Conference (LEC) Athlete of the Week after the Western Connecticut State University women's lacrosse team won both of their matchups. Pota was selected as the Offensive Player of the Week, while Preston earned Defensive Player of the Week on Monday.
Pota scored 12 goals with two assists for 14 total points in a 2-0 week for the now league-leading Wolves. She scored eight goals and secured seven draw controls in WestConn's 19-7 non-conference win at Worcester State to open the week. In a 12-5 win against conference rival Southern Maine, who was leading the LEC standings entering the game, Pota notched four goals and two assists with four ground balls and three draw controls for the Wolves.
Preston totaled 13 ground balls and 10 caused turnovers in a 2-0 week for the Wolves, leading a defense that yielded just six goals per game. She collected game-highs of eight ground balls and five caused turnovers in WestConn's 19-7 win at Worcester State. In the 12-5 LEC win over Southern Maine, Preston recorded game-highs of five ground balls and five caused turnovers in the Wolves' victory.
