DANBURY, Conn. - Junior attack
Isabella Pota (East Meadow, N.Y.) tallied four goals and two assists to lift the Western Connecticut State University women's lacrosse team to a 12-5 victory over the visiting University of Southern Maine on Saturday afternoon at the Westside Athletic Complex. With the win, the Wolves improved to 9-3 overall and 4-0 in Little East Conference play, while the Huskies dropped to 9-4 and 4-1.
The Wolves jumped all over the Huskies in the opening quarter as four different players scored to open the game. The hosts extended the advantage to 7-3 at halftime. Senior
Mia Negus (Rocky Point, N.Y.) netted her second goal of the year shortly before the break.
The Wolves erupted with a trio of goals to begin the second half. Pota tickled the twine for three straight, upping the lead to 10-3. The Wolves would not look back. They finished ahead in shots, 33-16, while forcing 25 turnovers which proved to be the difference maker.
WestConn returns to action for a Little East Conference matchup at Rhode Island College on Wednesday at 4 p.m.
