DANBURY, Conn. - WestConn Athletics is pleased to announce a new awards program for its student-athletes to spotlight their outstanding performances in their given sports the previous.  Each week, one female and one male student-athlete will be selected by the department as the Wolves of the Week and the awardees will be announced on Wednesdays.  The second Wolves of the Week of 2024 fall season have been selected thanks to their strong performances on the volleyball court and the football field.  Football senior John Giller (Massapequa Park, N.Y.) and volleyball senior Helen Megson (Lebanon, Conn.) have been named as the Wolves of the Week.

Giller completed 17 of 24 passes for 168 yards with touchdown tosses of 26, 21, and 11 yards in a 44-27 loss at Merchant Marine. Giller was playing in his first game back after suffering after a season-ending injury midway during the fall of 2023.  Megson tallied 55 kills (4.58 per set) , 28 digs (2.33 per set) and seven blocks (0.58 per set) with a .308 hitting percentage in the Wolves wins at Mount St. Mary and Hartford and against Merchant Marine. She put down 17 kills and four aces to go with 10 digs in the 3-1 win at Hartford to open the day's tri-match, before exploding for a program-record 31 kills with three aces, three blocks and 12 digs in a 3-2 victory over Merchant Marine in the day's second match. Megson hit .333 against the Hawks and .323 against the Mariners and was also honored as the Little East Conference (LEC) Volleyball Offensive Player of the Week for her efforts.
