DANBURY, Conn.- Western Connecticut State University placed 11 athletes on the 2025 National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) Division III National Academic Squad, 10 players on the Little East Conference (LEC) 2025 Fall All-Academic Team, and 22 on the LEC Fall Academic Honor Roll. Miah Ruiz (New Fairfield, Conn.) and
Reagan Schoen (Newtown, Conn.) were each named to the LEC Fall All-Academic Team and an LEC All-Conference Team, while junior
Alyssa Montalvo (Holbrook, N.Y.) received both the All-Academic squad and received an LEC Fall Sportsmanship award. WestConn, coached by Dani McDonnell (20th season), finished the 2024 campaign with a 7-11 overall record and finished fifth in the LEC with a 2-4 record against league teams. The Wolves qualified for the LEC Championship Tournament, falling at Castleton, 6-1, in the opening round.
The NFHCA recognizes more than 3300 outstanding undergraduate student-athletes on the 2025 Division III National Academic Squad. Sponsored by OPA Winning Teams, the NFHCA
National Academic Squad program honors undergraduate student-athletes who have achieved a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or higher through the fall semester, nominated by their NFHCA member coaches. The WestConn fall athletic teams placed 41 Wolves on the LEC Fall All-Academic Team and 19 WestConn varsity programs combined to earn 246 LEC Fall Academic Honor Roll selections. To be selected to the Fall All-Academic Team, a student-athlete must have reached sophomore academic standing and be in good standing in their sport with a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.30. The LEC announced a total of 2,745 student-athletes competing in the conference's 21 championship sports for the LEC Academic Honor Roll in recognition of their academic performance in the fall 2025 semester. To be named the LEC Academic Honor Roll, a student-athlete must earn a semester GPA of 3.00 or better and have been an active member of the team at the conclusion of the season.
