Wolves Suffer First Loss at Vassar, 5-0

Box Score POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. - After jumping out to a 2-0 start to begin the 2022 campaign, the Western Connecticut State University field hockey team dropped a 5-0 decision at non-conference foe Vassar College on Wednesday evening at Weinberg Field. With the win, the hosts improved to 4-0. 

Ella Pearl paced Vassar with two goals while three others tallied one goal apiece. The hosts outshot the visitors by a 20-4 margin while also holding an advantage in penalty corners, 13-3.

Pearl opened the scoring less than six minutes into the contest when she took a feed and buried her second goal of the year. Moments later, Maggie Werner also netted her second of the season when she banged home a shot. Max Meijaard tacked on another late in first, widening the Vassar advantage to 3-0. 

Pearl added her second goal of the contest in the third before Leilani Llamas rounded the count out at 5-0 with a blast in the 47th minute of play.

WestConn will look to rebound from the loss when they meet visiting Westfield State in their Little East Conference opener on Saturday at Noon.
