Box Score 2 FORT PIERCE, Fla. - Senior right fielder
Max Gregory (Jewitt City, Conn.) went 2-for-3, drove in four runs and smacked a double in Western Connecticut State University's 10-6 victory over Albright College in the opener of a twinbill in sunny Florida on Monday afternoon. In the nightcap, Gregory had a run-scoring single as WestConn defeated the Lions, 4-2.
WestConn scattered a dozen hits with
Zach Edwards (Seymour, Conn.) led his team with three hits in five at bats. He scored three runs against the Lions. Christopher Elhers (Norwalk, Conn.) and
Joe Gambino (Stamford, Conn.) each collected a pair of hits in a trio of at bats.
Freshman
Connor Gannon (New Milford, Conn.) earned his first collegiate win after going six strong inning in his first start for WestConn. He allowed four runs, only one of them earned, on eight hits, struck out three and walked two.
Ethan Skinner (Berlin, Conn.) threw the final inning and escaped with only giving up a pair of runs. He struck out one and walked three.
Freshman lead-off hitter Billy Bean led Albright after going 3-for-4, driving in three runs with a double. He also scored two runs in the loss.
Dante Mack suffered the loss after yielding six earned runs on five hits in the first three and a third innings. He struck out three and walked four in the opener.
In the second game, Gregory,
Jake Montas (Ellington, Conn.) and
Jesse Dunn (Bedford, N.Y.) each had a single and drove in a run.
Freshman
Zach Kugler (Newtown, Conn.) hurled six strong inning and collected his first collegiate win. He struck out eight and walked three while yielding just one base hit. Gregory came on to earn the save in the seventh inning for WestConn, which improves to 3-2 in the early going.
WestConn will take on Hood College on Tuesday, March 15. First pitch in the single game is set for 10 am.
