DANBURY, Conn. — Despite taking an early 2-0 lead, the Western Connecticut State University baseball team dropped a tight 4-2matchup against SUNY New Paltz on Wednesday. WestConn dropped to 11-22 overall, while the Hawks moved to 23-13 on the season. After the game, the Wolves honored their six seniors:
Robert Garcia (Farmingville, N.Y.),
Josef Rosa (Fort Lee, N.J.),
Luke Paluska (East Hampton, Conn.),
Peter Coniglio (New Milford, Conn.) and
Zachary Ruta (Preston, Conn.).
After two scoreless innings,
Thomas Keough (Plainville, Conn.) ignited the scoring with a groundout to the pitcher, bringing home
Mitch Landau (Northport, N.Y.) in the bottom of the third. At the next at bat,
Nick Lobuono (Trumbull, Conn.) singled to right center to put
Ryan Vallie (East Haven, Conn.) in scoring position at third base. Lobuono stole second, but an off-kilter throw by the catcher opened a window for Vallie to score, putting the Wolves up 2-0.
WestConn maintained the two-run lead until Ryan Muskopf doubled to right field in the sixth inning and a pair of Hawks scored to knot the score at two. Two batters later, Muskopf's run gave the visitors the lead off a sacrifice fly to right field by Joe Richetti. Joe Scarabino added the insurance run of a Luca Sieger double to right field in the ninth.
WestConn closes out the regular season with a road Little East Conference doubleheader at Keene State University on May 1 at noon.
