Box Score DANBURY, CT - Senior runningback Tory Mack (Stratford, CT) carried the ball 17 times for 252 yards and four touchdowns to lead Western Connecticut State University to a 58-0 victory over Nichols College at The WAC on Saturday afternoon.
Mack scored on runs 37, two, 38 and 54 yards as the Colonials evened their record at 1-1 on the young season. Three of his touchdowns came before intermission as Western raced out to a 37-0 bulge at the break.
The Colonials amassed 566 total offensive yards against the Bison with an average of 10.3 yards on their 55 plays.
Senior quarterback Will Arndt (Newtown, CT) completed just 6 of 9 passes but racked up 189 yards and two touchdowns in three quarters. His TD tosses were from 52 and 37 yards, respectively, to Connor Falaguerra (Milford, CT) and Alex Altermatt (Branford, CT).
With 4:35 remaining in the first quarter, Western's Bobby Durham (New Haven, CT) returned a blocked Connor Haynes (Sutton, MA) 21-yard field goal attempt back 81 yards to give his team a 13-0 advantage. Agbaeze Sampson (West Haven, CT) was credited with the blocked field-goal try.
Michael Killoran (West Hartford, CT) then booted a 24 yard field goal with 1:09 left in the first stanza. On the day, Killoran was 7-of-8 on extra point attempts for a total of 10 points.
With 6:09 remaining in the game, junior runningback Andrew Cirino (Naugatuck, CT) scored from six yards out. A kick through the uprights by Killoran closed out the scoring on the day.
Nichols' ground attack was led by Felipe Njeim (Stoughton, MA) who had 77 yards on 15 carries.
Both Quillian Respass (Huntington, NY) and Bryan Hummel (Dedham, MA) completed 4-of-10 passes and were intercepted once. Respectively, they connected for 65 and 58 yards.
Jarvis Harris led the Bison with four catches for 56 yards.
Defensively, Travis Treibt (Brookfield, CT) recorded nine tackles and had a pair of sacks for Western. Stephen DeJournett (Akron, OH) and Chris Elser (Southbury, CT) each had eight take downs. Raheem Williams (Amityville, NY) followed with seven tackles, but lead all players with three quarterback sacks.
For Nichols, Connor Richard (Londonderry, NH) had a team-high six tackles.
Western continues its three-game, start-of-the-season homestand when it plays host to Plymouth State University next Saturday, September 20. Game time is scheduled for 3 pm.
The Bison will host Becker College next Saturday in their home opener at 1 pm. It will be Nichols' Homecoming Day.
