Box Score NORTH DARTMOUTH, MA - The Western Connecticut State University football team extended its win streak to three games following Saturday's 35-12 road victory over University of Massachusetts Dartmouth at Cressy Field.
The Colonials, now 6-2 overall and 5-2 in the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference, have outscored their opponents, 160-66 during the win streak, dating back to a 70-14 win over Fitchburg State on October 19.
Western closes out the regular season, after a bye week, when it plays host to Westfield State University on Senior Day on November 16. Kick off is slated for 12 noon.
Against UMass Dartmouth, record-setting running back Octavias McKoy (Stratford, CT) led all runners with 123 yards on 23 carries and scored on runs of one and 33 yards. His TD runs with number 24 and 25 on the season. A week ago, McKoy set a new NCAA All-Divisions' record with 455 yards rushing on 43 carries and scored five touchdowns, for the third straight week.
Junior quarterback Will Arndt (Newtown, CT) had another solid performance, completing 12 of 20 passes for 186 yards and two touchdowns.
Arndt opened the scoring for the Colonials when he hooked up with sophomore Alex Altermatt (Branford, CT) from 28 yards out 2:04 into the contest. Early in the second quarter, Arndt and David Plaza (Waterbury, CT) combinded for a 26-yard touchdown to give Western a lead (14-6) it would never relinquish.
With just 1:39 remaining before intermission, Arndt scampered in from four yards out.
On the first play of the ensuing Corsairs' possession, Marquis Brown (Hartford, CT) recovered a fumble by Hanna. Two plays later, McKoy bulled his way in from one yard out and Michael Killoran (West Hartford, CT) convertted the point after. The sophomore kicker was a perfect five-of-five on extra-point tries on the day.
After UMD's M. Slaughter ran in from two yards out in the closing minutes of the third quarter, McKoy closed out the scoring when he hit the hole running and didn't stop until he amassed 33 yards and found paydirt with 12:24 still remaining in the game.
Altermatt and Plaza led all receivers with five catches for 68 yards and four receptions for 87 yards, respectively for the winners.
Defensively, Michael Lacaria (Watertown, CT) was everywhere on the field, collecting 12 tackles including one for a loss of 11 yards. Tyrell Ballard (Bridgeport, CT) followed with 10 tackles and an interception while freshman Devante Credle (West Haven, CT) added nine take downs.
The Western D had five interceptions on the afternoon as it held the Corsairs to 315 total offensive yards on a robust 79 plays. That is a mere 4.0 yards per play given up by the Colonials' defensive 11 on Saturday.
