WestConn Places Second In Home Men's Golf Invitational

DANBURY, Conn. - Sophomore Brayden Kassel (Washougal, Wash.) finished third with a 78 over 18 holes to lead Western Connecticut State University to second place in the team standings, as the Wolves hosted the WestConn Men's Golf Invitational this afternoon at Richter Park Golf Course.  WestConn totaled 328 as a squad to finish five strokes better than third-place Eastern Connecticut and 14 shy of first-place Western New England.  WestConn will compete in the RIC Spring Invitational next on April 17 and 18 at Valley Country Club in Rhode Island.

Kassel improved four strokes on the back nine after making the turn with a 41.  Western New England's Kyle DeGroff and Derek Johnson tied or medalist honors, three strokes better than Kassel at 75.  WestConn freshman Logan Starks (Mechanicville, N.Y.) shot an 80 to tie for fourth, junior Anthony Nanfito (Middletown, Conn.) recovered from a 51 on the front nine to fire the best score of the day on the back at 33 to finish with an eighth-place 84.  Wolves junior Tim Larson (New Milford, Conn.) shot an 86 and junior Luke Reis (Mahopac, N.Y.) had a 92.
