PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Three Wolves earned Little East Conference (LEC) weekly honors as the Western Connecticut State University men's soccer team extended their unbeaten streak to ten in a 2-0-1 week on Monday. Sophomore midfield
Nickolas Santana (New Haven, Conn.) was named Offensive Athlete of the Week, while junior back
Enzo LaGrassa-Gillet (Miami Beach, Fla.) was selected for Defensive Athlete of the Week. First-year midfielder
Matthews Rocha (Danbury, Conn.) earned Rookie of the Week for the second time this season.
Santana scored a total of six goals on the week, leading the Wolves to a 2-1-0 record. He scored two goals, including the game-winner in a 3-0 non-conference win at Kean on Wednesday and in a 3-0 LEC victory at home over Southern Maine Saturday. Santana capped the week with another two-goal performance in a 3-3 draw at No. 1 ranked Williams College, which saw him net the game-tying goal in the 87th-minute.
LaGrassa-Gillet played a key role in the Wolves' defense that blanked Kean on the road and Southern Maine at home, both by 3-0 scores. Kean was held to 12 shots (three on-goal) Wednesday, while USM was held to just two total shots Saturday, one of which was on-target. He also scored a goal in WestConn's 3-3 tie at top-ranked Williams Sunday afternoon.
Rocha had two goals and two assists in three games for WestConn last week. He assisted on the game's first goal and scored the second in a 3-0 win at Kean, and scored another goal in a 3-0 home victory against LEC-rival Southern Maine. Rocha capped the week by setting up the game-tying goal in the 87th minute of a 3-3 tie at top-ranked Williams Sunday.
