WESTFIELD, Mass. - Eight Western Connecticut State University football student-athletes have been named to the 2022 Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference All-Conference Team on Thursday.  Four Wolves were named to the First Team, on on defense and three on offense while four, two on each side of the back, were honored on the Second Team.  WestConn's total of eight and four First-Team honorees is the most since the conference began play in 2013.

Senior defensive lineman Raquell Davis (Mastic Beach, N.Y.) captured First-Team defensive accolades after registering 33 tackles for the 7-3 Wolves.  He tallied 1.5 quarterback sacks and returned one fumble in 2022.

Senior running back Chad Blaszky (Selden, N.Y.) enjoyed an excellent final campaign, rushing for 1,306 yards on 260 carries and scored eight touchdowns.

Joining Blaszky on the offensive First Team were wide receiver Julian Ferguson (Enfield, Conn.) and return specialist Zach Soriano (Middle Island, N.Y.).

Ferguson grabbed a team-high 50 catches for 806 yards and nine touchdowns.  He averaged 16.12 yards per catch and 80.6 yards in 10 games.

Soriano, also a receiver that had 10 catches for 130 yards and a score, averaged 11.67 yards on nine punt returns and 17.5 yards on 10 kick-off returns in junior season.

WestConn, which finished in a three-way tie for second place in the MASCAC with Bridgewater State University and Plymouth State University,  had senior inside linebacker Nosa Uzamere (Hempstead, N.Y.) and senior defensive back Peter Bencivengo (Meriden, Conn.) selected on the Defensive Second Team.  Graduate student and full back David Ross (Port Jervis, N.Y.) and junior place kicker Anthony Weidtman (Nesconset, N.Y.) rounded out the Wolves Second-Team offensive honorees.

Uzamere and Bencivengo finished in one-two in total tackles this past season for WestConn.  Uzamere had 58 take down with a team-high nine tackles for a loss of 19 yards, one interceptions, one fumble recovery and forced and opponent's miscue.  Bencivengo tied senior Matt Fort with 48 tackles and was credited with a team-best six pass break ups.  He also blocked one kick in his final season.

Ross was the Wolves' third best receiver, coming out of the backfield with 22 catches for 260 yards on one TD.  He also averaged 7.8 yards on five carries.

Weidtman, a three-time MASCAC Special Teams Player of the Week, ended his third season by converting 4-of-6 field-goal attempts with a long of 40 yards and booted nine touchbacks while averaging 57.1 yards per kick off.  He finished the season with 40 points, third best on the team, after converting 28-of-30 extra-point attempts.
