Caldwell Notched 12 Points at Plymouth

Men's Lacrosse

Caldwell & Schaumloffel Erupt to Lead Men's Lacrosse Over Plymouth State, 21-10, in Regular Season Finale

Box Score PLYMOUTH, N.H. - Senior Eric Caldwell (East Moriches, N.Y.) and junior Donald Schaumloffel (Wantagh, N.Y.) erupted for 12 and nine points, respectively, to lead the Western Connecticut State University men's lacrosse team to a 21-10 victory at Plymouth State in the regular season finale for both squads on Thursday night. With the win, the Colonials improved to 4-2 overall and 4-2 in league play. They now await their seeding in the upcoming Little East Conference Postseason Tournament slated to begin on Tuesday. The Panthers dropped to 2-4 and 1-3.

The WestConn dynamic duo each registered a pair of goals as the squad jumped out to an early 4-0 advantage. They continued the flurry as Caldwell completed the hat trick and Schaumloffel registered his fourth goal of the game just before time expired to end the opening quarter, widening the gap to 7-2.

It was more of the same in the second stanza as Schaumloffel continued his torrid pace with his 12th and 13th goals of the year, putting the visitors ahead 11-2. They would hold a 13-5 edge at the break.

Things picked up right where they left off in the third as Schaumloffel notched his seventh goal of the contest. He would also finish with a pair of assists. WestConn senior midfielder Timothy Yannucci (Coram, N.Y.) got in on the action as he tallied a pair of scoring strikes in the third en route to a hat trick of his own.

Sophomore midfielder Benjamin Hawthorne (Manorville, N.Y.) would round the scoring out for the Colonials off yet another nifty feed from Caldwell.

Caldwell's massive effort consisted of five goals - including his team-leading 22nd of the season - and seven assists. After becoming WestConn's all-time leading goals scorer, he added to the total and it now stands at 175.

The Colonials scooped up 38 ground balls while the Panthers notched 26. The visitors also managed a 2-for-5 performance on man-up while the hosts were held to an 0-for-5 showing.

Senior Perry Cassidy (East Setauket, N.Y.) earned his fourth win and finished with eight saves for WestConn.

"Obviously, Eric Caldwell and Donald Schaumloffel put together tremendous performances for us tonight. Hopefully we can maintain this great effort rolling into the playoffs," said WesConn head coach Ryan Cavanaugh following the victory.
