WestConn Men's Lacrosse Grabs Three LEC Weekly Awards

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Western Connecticut State University men's lacrosse boasted three different Little East Conference (LEC) weekly awards in the final week of the 2026 regular season.  Wolves senior Charlie Guidera (Redding, Conn.) was named as the LEC Defensive Player of the Week for the third time and the second week in a row.  Sophomore Jake Kelly (Bethpage, Conn.) was honored as the LEC Goalkeeper of the Week for the second-straight week, and graduate Michael Zapatka (Newington, Conn.) garnered the LEC Offensive Player of the Week.  WestConn, coached by Ryan Cavanagh (11th Season), downed UMass Boston, 9-6, on the road and defeated Plymouth State, 12-5, to complete an undefeated turn through the eight conference opponents this spring, and finished the overall regular campaign at 14-3.  The Wolves are seeded No. 1 in the LEC Championship Tournament and will host a semifinal game on Thursday, April 30 at 7 p.m.

Guidera totaled 14 ground balls and three caused turnovers last week. He  picked up five ground balls and caused one turnovers in the comeback win at UMass Boston before scooping up a career-high nine ground balls with two caused turnovers against Plymouth State.  Kelly was 2-0 with a 5.57 goals against average and .718 save percentage last week. He totaled 19 saves in the victory over the Beacons and had nine stops over 58:34 of the triumph against the Panthers.  Zapatka netted back-to-back hat tricks in LEC action for the first time this season. He scored three goals as WestConn rallied from a 5-1 deficit versus UMass Boston and had a career-high five goals in the regular season finale at Plymouth State.
