DANBURY, Conn.. — Western Connecticut State University seniors
Leana Heitmann (East Syracuse, N.Y.) and
Sara Macary (Naugatuck, Conn.) were named to the 2026 CSC Division III Academic All-District Women's Basketball Team. She also joined Wolves senior
Francesca Foster (Mystic, Conn.), sophomores
Gianna Castellano (East Haven, Conn.),
Cameron Froehlich (Brookfield, Conn.), and
Deona Garcia (Hopewell Junction, N.Y.) and freshmen
Finley Burke (Dallas, Texas) and
Julyssa Patterson (Waterbury, Conn.) on the Little East Conference (LEC) Fall Academic Honor Roll. In addition, Foster, Castellano and Froehlich each graced the LEC Winter All-Academic Team. WestConn, coached by Maria Conlon (2nd Season), finished the 2025-26 season with a 10-15 record, including a 5-5 mark in its last 10 games, and a 5-11 mark against conference teams.
The 2025-26 Academic All-District® Women's Basketball Teams, selected by College Sports Communicators, recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the court and in the classroom. The CSC Academic All-America® program separately recognizes honorees in four divisions — NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and NAIA. Academic All-District® honorees advance to the CSC Academic All-America® ballot. First-, second and third-team Academic All-America® honorees will be announced on April 16.
The LEC announced a total of 586 student-athletes named to the 2025-26 LEC Winter All-Academic Team. To be named to the LEC All-Academic Team, a student-athlete must be at least a sophomore standing in the classroom, have a cumulative GPA of 3.30 or higher through the previous semester, and have been at their current institution for at least one full academic year.To be named the LEC Academic Honor Roll, a student-athlete must earn a semester GPA of 3.00 or better and have been an active member of the team at the conclusion of the term.
Macary, a 2026 All-LEC First Team honoree, led the Wolves and tied for second in the LEC in rebounding with 7.7 per game and was sixth in the LEC in scoring with 15.6 ppg this winter. She was fifth in the league in field goal shooting with a team-high .482 percentage and sixth in free throw shooting at .850, while also totaling 27 steals and 10 blocks while starting all 25 games. She was honored as the LEC Women's Basketball Player of the Week twice this season. A graduate of Naugatuck High School who came to Danbury this fall after three years at Franklin Pierce, Macary is majoring in business management at WestConn.
Heitmann led LEC in free throw shooting at 89.8 percent and had team-high totals in assists with 67 (10th in LEC), steals with 46 and blocks with 33 (4th in LEC) this winter. She also averaged 11 points and 7.4 rebounds per game (8th in LEC) to go with 35 three-pointers while starting all 25 games. She was honored as the LEC Women's Basketball Player of the Week once this season. A graduate of the Winchendon School in Massachusetts who came to Danbury this fall after three years at Franklin Pierce, Heitmann is majoring in business entrepreneurship at WestConn.
