WestConn Football Takes Down Kean In First Road Game Of The Season

UNION, N.J. - Junior QB Dylan Jackson (Monroe, Conn.) threw for 337 yards and five touchdowns and DE Kile Jackson (Danbury, Conn.) had seven tackles, 3.5 sacks, and an interception to lead the visiting Western Connecticut State University Wolves to a 38-7 win over the Kean University Cougars in football action this afternoon.  WestConn improves to 3-0 with its sixth victory in a row and Kean falls to 1-2.  The Wolves will play their first-ever Landmark Conference game next Saturday at 1 p.m. in the middle game of a three-game road stretch at Juniata College in Pennsylvania.

WestConn struck first late in the first quarter, completing a 79-yard drive in 11 plays with a 26-yard field goal by sophomore Marciel Do Amaral (Danbury, Conn.) 2:14 before the first break.  Jackson connected with classmate Serge Lagardere (Stamford, Conn.) three times for 53 yards and twice for first downs during the drive.  Kean took a 7-3 lead on a 12-yard touchdown pass from Rocco Pellegrino to Justin Leigh early in the second quarter, Jackson was picked off by Kean's Chris Amos moments later, and the Cougars had a punt return for a score by Christian Bunjo nullified by a penalty.  Kile Jackson stole the momentum back for the Wolves with his interception of a Pellegrino pass that gave WestConn the ball at the Kean 17-yard line with five minutes left before halftime. Dylan Jackson hit rookie WR Tamarion LaFortune (West Haven, Conn.) for a 14-yard scoring pass two plays later to give the Wolves a 10-7 lead at intermission.

Kile Jackson came up with a nine-yard sack on Kean's first drive of the second half, helping WestConn get the ball at midfield after a short Cougar punt.  Jackson took advantage and completed his next five passes, including a six-yard toss to junior WR Markus Faucett (Bronx, N.Y.) in the end zone for the only points of the third quarter.  Lagardere did have a 93-yard punt return for a score called back on a penalty, and WestConn drive to the Cougar one-yard line at the final break thanks to a 51-yard connection from Dylan Jackson to Faucett on 3rd-and-8.  The drive finished up with a one-handed grab by Faucett in the right corner of the end zone to give the Wolves a 24-7 lead with 14:50 left in the game.  The Kean offense could get nowhere against WestConn's defense, while Dylan Jackson added touchdown passes to LaFortune and sophomore WR Jayden LeRoy (Danbury, Conn.) before time expired.

WestConn held the Cougars to eight rushing yards on 20 carries and just 147 total yards, while WestConn totaled 441 yards offensively.  Dylan Jackson finished 26-for-43 for his second consecutive 300-yard game.  Pellegrino was 15-for-28 for 123 yards.  Junior RB Quasim Benson (Wilmington, Del.) paced all rushers with 34 yards on the ground for the Wolves.  Faucett caught six passed for 87 yards, Lagardere had five grabs for 75 yards, and LaFortune totaled 66 yards on his tw touchdown receptions.  Christian Bujno paced Kean with a game-high nine catches for 59 yards.  WestConn junior LB Eamon Moran (Stratford, Conn.) made a 10 tackles and broke up a pass.  Rodney Acquah had 10 tackles and Michael Beers notched nine tackles and a sack for Kean.  John Fitzmaurice (New Milford, Conn.) averaged 43.2 yards on five punts for the visitors.
