BETHLEHEM, Penn. - The Western Connecticut State University football team held a 21-14 halftime lead at Moravian University on Saturday afternoon at Rocco Calvo Field. However, the Wolves were unable to hold on to the advantage as the Greyhounds rallied to capture a 35-28 victory. With the loss, WestConn fell to 4-3 overall and 1-2 in league play while Moravian captured its first victory of the year, improving to 1-7 and 1-3.
The hosts opened the contest with a 10-play drive for 67 yards capped off with a five-yard touchdown pass. The Wolves fumbled the ensuing kickoff and the Hounds recovered the ball deep in their territory. However, the Wolves defense picked up the intensity and held the Hounds to a field goal attempt which sailed just wide of the upright.Â
The squads then exchanged turnovers before WestConn would eventually even the count at 7-7 early in the second quarter. Senior

Dylan Jackson (Monroe, Conn.) rumbled into pay dirt from 20 yards out, giving WestConn a 14-7 lead. The hosts retaliated quickly when Christopher Brown tossed his second scoring play of the game, knotting the count at 14-14 with 37 ticks before halftime. But the Wolves answered right away with a long 41-yard pass play before Jackson would find junior wide receiver

The second half was all Moravian as they racked up three consecutive touchdowns to seize a 35-21 lead. WestConn answered with a late score when junior
Quasim Benson (Wilmington, Del.) capped a six-play 89-yard drive with a three-yard scamper across the goal line, cutting the deficit to 35-28 with 1:57 remaining on the clock. The Wolves then attempted an onside kick but could not retain possession. The hosts ran four plays but turned it over on downs leading to one last shot for the Wolves with 17 seconds left. However, WestConn was sacked twice and could not tally the equalizer.
The Wolves will look to rebound when they return to action against LC foe Susquehanna University at the Westside Athletic Complex on Saturday at 1 p.m.
