WestConn Football Drops Homecoming Game To Lycoming

DANBURY,Conn. - The Western Connecticut State University Wolves were beaten, 42-24, to the visiting Lycoming College Warriors in Landmark Conference football action this afternoon at Westside Stadium,falling to 4-2 overall and 1-1 in the league with their second loss in a row.  Lycoming improves to 2-5 overall and 2-1 in the conference.  The Wolves will visit league rival Moravian next Saturday at 1 p.m.  WestConn junior WR Markus Faucett (Bronx, N.Y.) was stellar for the home team, catching seven passes for 221 yards and a touchdown.

Lycoming's Terrence Oliver ran 62 yards for the game's first touchdown on the Warriors' first play from scrimmage.  WestConn answered with a 71-yard touchdown pass from junior Dylan Jackson (Monroe, Conn.) to Faucett, and the Wolves led, 8-7, after a tricky two-point conversion run by sophomore Marciel Do Amaral (Danbury, Conn.) with 11:49 left in the first quarter.  Do Amaral totaled 11 points in the first half with field goals of 37, 29, and 27 yards but the Warrior offense scored three more touchdowns in the first half to lead 28-17 at intermission.  Michael Van Horn scored two of the Warrior touchdowns on direct snap runs up the gut.

Lycoming outscored WestConn, 14-0, in the third quarter to open up a 42-17 lead, scoring once on a 75-yard blocked field goal return by Ryan Pentz and taking advantage of an interception by Matt Trolinger to score its second touchdown.  Wolves senior CB Tyon Grimes (Hempstead, N.Y.) recovered a fumble to set up a five-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter by Quasim Benson (Wilmington, Del.) to round out the scoring.  Jackson finished with 314 passing yards but had 17 incompletions and two interceptions.  Joe Lyons was 21-for-27 for 280 yards and two scores.  Benson and senior Kamryn Holmes (Branford, Conn.) combined for 97 rushing yards for the Wolves, but Oliver totaled 132 yards on the ground and 59 more through the air.  Karson Kline added five catches for 99 yards for the Warriors. 

Defensively, sophomore Tafari Johnson had eight tackles and a fumble recovery, senior LB Justin Ingebrigtsen (East Norwuch, N.Y.) had eight tackles and a tackle for loss, and senior DE Nicholas Simmons finished with eight tackles and a forced fumble for the Wolves.  Yahseam Stokes made six tackles with two sacks and blocked the field goal for Lycoming.
