DANBURY, Conn. - The Western Connecticut State University Wolves took care of business against the visiting John Jay College Bloodhounds with a convincing 3-0 victory in men's soccer action this evening at Westside Stadium. WestConn improves to 5-2-2 and will host Little East Conference (LEC) rival Castleton next on Saturday at 1 p.m. Junior
Kamal Sabar (Brooklyn, N.Y.), sophomore
Enzo LaGrassa-Gillet (North Bay Village, Fla.) and freshman Nicole Acocella (Harrison, N.Y.) scored goals for the Wolves.
Neither offense generated much pressure early until a John Jay foul in their own end gave WestConn a penalty kick in the 13th minute. Sabar converted the attempt low and to the left of Bloodhound goalie Davio Rossilevin. The Wolves defense was inpenetrable in the first half with zero John Jay shots before halftime. WestConn's offense came alive in the second half and took multiple shots early before sophomore midfielder
Jeffrey Norales (Bronx, N.Y.) sent a rolling pass into the box from the left wing that was one-timed into the net by LaGrassa-Gillet in the 67th minute.
The Wolves continued to attack, forcing Rossilevin to make three saves in four minutes, but WestConn senior midfielder
George Cortes (Fairfield, Conn.) lofted ball from deep in the right flank to the far post that was tracked down and redirected into the goal by a diving Acocella for the game's final goal in 80th minute. WestConn finished with 23-to-3 shooting advantage, had all six of the game's penalty kicks and played three goalies and 28 different field players. Junior
Zachary Benson (Derby, Conn.) improved to 5-0-1 with 32-plus minutes in goal, but none of the three Wolves keepers needed to make a save. Rossilevin had six stops for the Bloodhounds.
