Alexa Riggio (North Massapegua, N.Y.) tallied five, four and three goals respectively to lift the Western Connecticut State University women's lacrosse team to a 20-6 victory over visiting Vermont State University Castleton in a Little East Conference matchup on Saturday afternoon at the Westside Athletic Complex.
Renny Cota and Megan Ward scored two goals apiece to lead the Spartans, while Gianna Geraci scooped up a game-high four groundballs.
The hosts dominated play and opened the contest with a 7-2 run. Senior midfielder
Vicky Gracy (Bethel, Conn.) netted her 33rd goal of the season to get things started before Ratchford completed the first quarter hat trick to cap the flurry.
WestConn would not stop there. They continued the barrage to widen the lead to 15-3 at halftime. Rookie attacker
Isabella Pota (East Meadow, N.Y.) canned her 31st of the campaign to square off the run.
The Wolves took a 19-3 advantage into the fourth before Riggio buried her team-leading 36th marker of the year to finish things off.
With the victory, WestConn improved to 10-5 overall while the Spartans dropped to 2-12. The Wolves return to the field when they host archrival Eastern Connecticut on Wednesday at 6 p.m.
