Game Recap: Women's Lacrosse |

Riggio Leads Women's Lacrosse Rout at UMass Dartmouth

DARTMOUTH, Mass. - Graduate student attacker Alexa Riggio (North Massapequa, N.Y.) erupted for a game-high seven points on four goals and three assists to lift the Western Connecticut State University women's lacrosse team to a 15-3 rout at UMass Dartmouth in a Little East Conference matchup at Cressy Field on Tuesday night.

With the win, the Wolves improved to 9-5 overall and 4-0 in league play, while the Corsairs sank to 8-5 and 1-3.

Sophomore attacker Madison Ratchford (Ridge, N.Y.) added a hat trick for the visitors, while senior midfielder Vicky Gracy (Bethel, Conn.) tacked on two goals and one helper. Six other Wolves were able to connect with the back of the net during the contest.

Widline Thomas paced the Corsairs with a pair of goals while Melanny Sanchez Alvarez tallied the other scoring strike for the hosts.

WestConn outshot UMass Dartmouth by a 29-16 margin while also controlling the groundball battle, 22-14.

The visitors netted four goals in the first quarter before racking up another seven in the second to capture an 11-0 lead at halftime. Ratchford sparked the barrage while Riggio netted three straight markers during the flurry. Ratchford then rounded out the run two seconds before the break with her 29th goal of the season.

The Corsairs would not stage any sort of comeback in the second half. Alvarez finished off the scoring with her team-leading 55th goal of the campaign for the hosts to conclude the scoring at 15-3.

WestConn senior goalkeeper Molly Bresnahan (Groton, Conn.) earned the win and stopped eight shots, while Kelsie Couto finished with the loss and turned aside seven shots for UMass Dartmouth.

The Wolves - winners of their last four contests - return to action when they host Vermont State University Castleton in another LEC tilt on Saturday at 2 p.m.
