WestConn Women's Lacrosse Wins At Keene State With Strong Second Half

KEENE, N.H. - Sophomore Madison Ratchford (Ridge, N.Y.) and freshman Isabella Pota (East Meadow, N.Y.) scored three times each to lead the visiting Western Connecticut State University Wolves to an 11-8 victory over the Keene State College Owls in Little East Conference (LEC) women's lacrosse action this afternoon at Owl Complex.  WestConn improves to 8-5 overall and 3-0 in the Little East with its third win in a row, while the Owls fall to 7-4 overall and 2-1 in the league with their first loss in four games.  The Wolves will visit LEC opponent UMass-Dartmouth next on Tuesday at 7 p.m.

Trailing, 4-3, at intermission, WestConn doubled up Keene State, 8-4, in the second half.  Pota tied the game with her first goal 1:28 into the third and the teams traded goals back and forth until consecutive tallies by Pota and senior Alexa Riggio (North Massapequa, N.Y.) gave WestConn a 7-6 lead at the 5:33 mark of the third quarter.  Wolves senior Vicky Gracy (Bethel, Conn.) assisted Riggio on the go-ahead goal, while junior Faye Junge (Centerport, N.Y.) added the third WestConn goal in a row with 54 seconds left before the first break.

Haile Ratajack scored for the Owls early in the fourth to make the score, 8-7, before Pota, Ratchford and junior attacker Savannah Kom (Danbury, Conn.) each tickled the twine to lift the Wolves to an 11-7 advantage with just 3:23 remaining. The Owls tallied a late scoring strike to round the count out at 11-8.

WestConn senior netminder Molly Bresnahan (Groton, Conn.) earned the win and recorded six saves, while Keene State goalie Mabelle Bessette took the loss and stopped seven shots for the Owls.
