Junge's Big Afternoon Lifts Women's Lacrosse Over Farmingdale

FARMINGDALE, N.Y. - Sophomore midfielder Faye Junge (Centerport, N.Y.) tallied a game-high six points with four goals and two assists to lift the Western Connecticut State University women's lacrosse team to a 15-8 victory at Farmingdale State College in a non-league matchup on Saturday afternoon.

Rookie attacker Isabella Pota (East Meadow, N.Y.) also netted four goals for the Wolves, while senior midfielder Vicky Gracy (Bethel, Conn.) contributed a goal and two helpers. Sophomore defender Mia Negus (Rocky Point, N.Y.) tallied game-highs of six ground balls and three caused turnovers.

Carly Livingston led the Rams with a hat trick, while Megan Diamond chipped in with a pair of scoring strikes and one assist.

The visitors outshot the hosts, 30-21, while also holding the edge in ground balls, 21-16.

WestConn netted a pair of goals early in the opening quarter to snag a 2-0 lead. Farmingdale would answer to eventually deadlock the count at 3-3 late in the stanza. However, the Wolves answered with six consecutive goals. Junge began the flurry when she found the back of the net on a free position attempt late in the first. The Wolves added four in the second quarter before Junge netted her third goal of the season less than three minutes into the third to wrap up the run, giving WestConn a 9-3 advantage.

The Wolves would cruise the rest of the way. Pota rounded out the scoring for the visitors with her 10th goal of the campaign.

Senior netminder Molly Bresnahan (Groton, Conn.) racked up 11 saves for the Wolves to earn the win. Giavanna Stamatelo and Ronnie Reilly split time for the Rams and combined for nine stops.

With the win, WestConn improved to 2-1 overall while Farmingdale dropped to 0-3. The Wolves return to action on Wednesday at 3 p.m. when they host the University of Hartford in a non-conference battle.
