DANBURY, Conn. - Junior midfielder
Kamal Sabar (Brooklyn, N.Y.) scored three goals in a row to lead the Western Connecticut State University Wolves to a 5-0 victory over the visiting Rhode Island College Anchormen in Little East Conference (LEC) men's soccer action this afternoon at Westside Stadium. WestConn ends its regular season with a 14-4-2 overall and record and on a three-game winning streak, while clinching the LEC regular season title on the last day with a 7-1 mark against league opponents. Rhode Island College, which would have won the conference title with a win today, ends its regular slate at 10-6-1 overall and 6-2 in the conference. The Wolves will be the top seed in the LEC Championship Tournament next week and will play either Keene State or Plymouth State on Thursday after receiving a bye on Tuesday. The Anchormen will host Castleton in a first round game on Tuesday at 7 p.m.
WestConn dominated play in the first half, outshooting the Anchormen, 8-0, but led just, 2-0, at intermission. Zachary Benson (Derby, Conn.) was forced to make the first two saves, as the Anchormen played inspired being down a player, but Sabar gave the Wolves a 3-0 lead in the 64th minute with a bicycle kick goal off a corner kick by Roxo.
