Box Score DANBURY, Conn. - The Western Connecticut State University Wolves snapped a three-match losing streak in impressive fashion with an 8-1 victory over the visiting University of Southern Maine Huskies in Little East Conference (LEC) women's tennis action this afternoon at Westside Courts. WestConn improves to 5-7 overall and 2-4 in the conference with a conference home match against Rhode Island College up next on Tuesday, October 8 at 3:30 p.m.
In doubles, the Wolves seniors duo of Sophia Charbonneau (Oakville, Conn.) and
Sarah Cipriano (Watertown, Conn.) were flawless with an 8-0 win at the No. 2 position and senior
Jessica Nyitrai (Trumbull, Conn.) and junior
Aylina Razeq (Danbury, Conn.) did the same at No. 3. Two more WestConn seniors,
Melanie Grasso (New Fairfield, Conn.) and
Diana Rebelo (Naguatuck, Conn.), won, 8-5 at the top of the doubles ladder to give the home team a sweep and a 3-0 lead. In singles, Charbonneau, Grasso and Rebelo dominated with 6-0, 6-0, victories in the middle of the lineup. while Cipriano won, 6-2, 6-0 at the top of the ladder and rookie
Ava Ciampi (Wolcott, Conn.) added a 6-0, 6-1 triumph.
