GORHAM, Maine - Sophomore midfielder
Jeffrey Norales (Bronx, N.Y.) tallied the lone goal of the game late in the first half to lift the Western Connecticut State University men's soccer team to a 1-0 shutout win at the University of Southern Maine in a Little East Conference matchup on Saturday at Hannaford Field.
The Wolves outshot the Huskies, 22-13, while also holding the lead in corner kick tries, 8-2. WestConn junior goalkeeper
Zachary Benson (Milford, Conn.) was hardly contested, finishing with one save en route to picking up his 10th win of the campaign. Aldo Bryant took the loss and notched six stops for Southern Maine.
Norales netted the game-winner late in the 33rd minute of play when he took a feed from rookie midfielder Nikolas Santana (New Haven, Conn.) and buried a shot into the twine. The Huskies had one final attempt on a corner in the waning seconds. However, the shot was blocked, giving the Wolves back-to-back wins.
With the victory, WestConn improved to 13-4-2 overall and 6-1 in league play, while the Huskies dropped to 2-9-6 and 1-4. The Wolves get a week of practice before their regular season finale against visiting LEC foe Rhode Island College on Saturday at 2 p.m.
