WestConn Men's Soccer Shuts Out Eastern Connecticut

DANBURY, Conn. - The Western Connecticut State University Wolves extended their winning streak to five in a row with a 2-0 road win against Eastern Connecticut State University Warriors in Little East Conference (LEC) men's soccer action at Mansfield Athletic Complex.  WestConn, ranked No. 7 in its region, improves to 11-3-2 overall and 5-0 in the LEC, while the Warriors drop to 2-7-3 overall and 0-4-1 in the league.  The Wolves will host the conference rival University of Massachusetts-Boston Beacons, ranked No. 8 in the region, on Saturday at 1 p.m. as part of WestConn's Homecoming Weekend festivities.

WestConn scored both of the game's goals in the opening 10 minutes, beginning with a tally by senior forward Maximus Vigo (Canton, Mich.) with an assist credited to junior forward Ian Mounts (Middletown, Conn.).  Mounts struck again moments later with his fourth goal in three games when he converted on a feed by senior back George Cortes (Fairfield, Conn.) 9:45 into the game.  The Wolves' defense was impenetrable, holding Eastern Connecticut without a shot-on-goal in the first half, while Nathan Yeich had two first-half saves for the Warriors.

Yeich made four more stops in the scoreless second half, while junior Zachary Benson (Derby, Conn.) registered both of his saves after intermission for the Wolves.  WestConn outshot Eastern Connecticut, 25-9, but just eight combined bids were on target between the two teams.  Freshman Nicola Acocella (Harrison, N.Y.) had a team-high five shots and junior Kamal Sabar (Brooklyn, N.Y.) had four for WestConn.
