MIDDLETOWN, Conn. - The Western Connecticut State University men's soccer team fell at non-league foe Wesleyan University, 3-1, on Tuesday night. With the loss, the Wolves dropped to 6-3-2 overall and saw their eight game unbeaten streak slip away. The Cardinals improved to 5-2-2.
It was a tight battle despite what the final score indicated. The teams finished deadlocked in shots, 8-8, and the visitors held the edge in corner attempts, 5-3. The hosts wasted little time getting on the board when Aiden Londergan took a pass from Mateo Neighbors and notched his first goal of the season just 1:01 into the first half.
Josh LaCorte added to the Cardinals lead early in the second stanza when he gathered a feed from Zack Burd and scored. Shortly thereafter, Calder Truesdale netted his second of the campaign, widening the gap to 3-0. The shutout was broken up with less than one minute remaining in the game when WestConn's
Giuseppe Mongelluzzo (Waterbury, Conn.) scored from rookie
Nicola Acocella (Harrison, N.Y.).
The Wolves return to the field when they host Little East Conference opponent Plymouth State on Saturday at 1 p.m.
