PLYMOUTH, N.H. - Three players notched double figures to lead the Western Connecticut State University men's basketball team to a 71-45 victory over Little East Conference foe Plymouth State University on Saturday afternoon at Foley Gym. Graduate student forward
Jaheim Young (Brooklyn, N.Y.) paced the Wolves with 13 points, while classmate guard Alfonso Stokes (Bloomfield, Conn.) and junior guard
Keeshawn Jones (Middletown, N.Y.) added 12 and 11, respectively.
Young and Stokes ripped five steals apiece, while junior guard
Jeremiah Williams (Brooklyn, N.Y.) chipped in with seven points and five assists.Â
Kyler Bosse was the lone player to reach double figures in scoring for the Panthers, finishing with 13. Giorgi Tsiklauri added a game-high nine rebounds.
Neither team shot the ball particularly well. However, WestConn connected on 23-of-65 (35 percent) of its shots from the floor, while Plymouth managed a 15-of-55 (27 percent) clip. The Wolves utilized the fast break with 17 points, while also earning 15 second chance points.Â
The visitors raced out to a 21-6 lead and led wire-to-wire. Jones capped the flurry with a pair of shots from the stripe. Sophomore guard
Jaysean Morgan (Poughkeepsie, N.Y.) buried a three-pointer, giving WestConn its largest lead of the first half, 42-20, shortly before the break.
The hosts trimmed the lead to 54-41 midway thru the second stanza when Christian Barr converted a layup. However, the Wolves countered with yet another run. A 13-2 spurt cemented the victory. With the win, WestConn improved to 14-4 overall and 7-2 in LEC play, while Plymouth dropped to 5-13 and 1-8.
The Wolves return to action when they host UMass Boston in yet another league battle on Wednesday at 7 p.m.
