3/15/2023 7:39:00 PM

Box Score NORTH DAVENPORT, Fla. - After cruising past the Wentworth Institute of Technology on Saturday, the Western Connecticut State University men's lacrosse team continued its strong start to the season as they edged North Central College, 11-10, to wrap up their spring trip. Sophomores Julian Duque (Mastic, N.Y.) and Matt Sweeney (Rocky Point, N.Y.) each tallied two goals and one assist to guide the Wolves.

Seniors Benjamin Hawthorne (Manorville, N.Y.) and Trey Aronow (Holbrook, N.Y.) chipped in with a goal and two assists, apiece.

The Cardinals came out strong and put together a surge to come away with a 4-2 lead to conclude the first quarter. Sweeney scored unassisted before Duque took a feed from Hawthorne and tickled the twine with a man-down for the Wolves.

North Central would take a 5-4 lead into halftime before WestConn retaliated with a four goal run in the third. Duque began the flurry with his second scoring strike of the game before feeding senior Jesse Weaver (Highland, N.Y.) to round out the run, giving the Wolves an 8-5 advantage.

The Cardinals rallied in the fourth as Rylan McQueary tallied three of his game-high four goals in the final stanza. However, WestConn finished off the game when senior longstick Chris Comizio (Danbury, Conn.) found the back of the net, sealing the win.

With the victory, the Wolves improved to 6-0 overall while the Cardinals fell to 2-3. WestConn returns to action when they return north, traveling to non-league foe Farmingdale State on Wednesday, March 22 at 4 p.m.
