Junior guard Cara Walker (Phelps, N.Y.) paced The Fighting Tigers with a double-double on 11 points to go along with game-highs of 11 rebounds, five assists and six steals. Senior forward Logan Thayne (Hossick Falls, N.Y) joined her in double figures with 10 points.
The visitors held a commanding 53-38 advantage on the glass which translated to 15 second chance points. The SUNY Cobleskill bench also outscored the hosts bench by a 27-13 margin.Â
The lead changed hands several times and the game was close thru much of the first half before The Fighting Tigers jumped ahead to seize a seven-point lead at halftime after a pair of free throws from sophomore forward Emily Satterday (Latham, N.Y.).
The Wolves trimmed the gap to 35-33 early in the third when sophomore guard
Malaysia Dingle (Holbrook, Mass.) sank a pair from the stripe. However, the visitors retaliated with a 10-0 run late in the stanza to put the game out of reach. WestConn cut it to seven points early in the fourth but SUNY Cobleskill went on to earn the win.
With the loss, the Wolves dropped to 0-2 overall, while The Fighting Tigers improved to 2-0. WestConn returns to action when they host non-league opponent SUNY Delhi on Wednesday at 7 p.m.
