Vivian Nets 18 as Women's Basketball Cruises Past SUNY Delhi

DANBURY, Conn. - Senior guard Nicole Vivian (New Milford, Conn.) canned a game-high 18 points while classmate center Gabriella Franks (Madison, Conn.) pulled down a game-high 14 rebounds as the Western Connecticut State University women's basketball team cruised to a 64-29 non-conference victory over visiting SUNY Delhi on Wednesday night at Feldman Arena.

Franks also collected a game-high four blocked shots, while junior guard Nicole Peralta (North Windham, Conn.) chipped in with 10 points and three assists.

Senior forward Jayda Allen (Brooklyn, N.Y.) led the Broncos with a double-double on 10 points and 10 boards to go along with three blocks. Junior guard Myles Matthias (Brooklyn, N.Y.) added eight points and seven off the glass.

The Wolves shot a scorching 42.9 percent (9-of-21) from three-point range while also forcing 25 turnovers. They held the visitors to just 18.4 percent (9-of-49) shooting from the floor.

The hosts started the contest with an 11-0 run and would not look back. Junior forward Rosaleen Regan (Monroe, N.J) rounded out the run with a shot from beyond-the-arc.

The Wolves continued to pounce on the Broncos in the second quarter. Franks took a pretty pass from sophomore guard Malaysia Dingle (Holbrook, Mass.) and found the bottom of the twine, setting the halftime count at 31-14.

WestConn widened the gap to 26 in the third when Vivian nailed one of her two trifectas on the evening. They upped it to a 40-point advantage in the fourth when Peralta sank a midrange jumper.

The Wolves earned their first victory of the campaign and moved to 1-2 overall, while the Broncos dropped to 0-4. WestConn will seek to continue moving in a positive direction when they host non-league opponent John Jay College on Saturday at 1 p.m.
