Box Score WAYNE, N.J. - Sophomore quarterback John Giller (Massapequa Park, N.Y.) completed 15 of 34 attempts for 160 yards and tossed a 14-yard touchdown pass to Kevon Patrick (Brooklyn, N.Y.) in the closing minutes in Western Connecticut State University's season-opening 28-7 loss to William Paterson University at Wightman Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

The Pioneers' special teams were the deciding factor on Saturday as Richard Massey and Tyreek Rollins scored on punt returns of 57 and 53 yards, respectively, in the first and final stanza.

Senior running back Chad Blaszky (Selden, N.Y.) led the Wolves' ground attack with 51 yards on 13 carries.  Junior Mack Driver (Mastic Beach, N.Y.) followed closely behind with 50 yards on 10 attempts.

Defensively, senior linebacker Matt Forti (New York, N.Y.) registered seven tackles while Nosa Uzamere (Hempstead, N.Y.) and Peter Bencivengo (Meriden, Conn.) tallied six wrap ups apiece.

WestConn, 0-1, finished with a decisive total offensive yard advantage, 237-143, but Nazir Dale led both teams with 16 carries for 110 yards.

Mele' Stallings completed just 4-of-6 pass attempts for 38 yards, and tossed a 17-yard strike for a touchdown to Tye Brookins in the closing minutes of the first half.

Samod Wingo recorded a game-high 11 tackles for the Pioneers, now 1-0.

WestConn travels to Albright College next Saturday.  Game time is slated for 3 pm in Reading, Pa.

William Paterson travels to nearby Madison, N.J. for a 7 pm meeting with Fairleigh Dickinson-Florham on Friday, September 9.
