NORTH ADAMS, Mass. - Senior
Payton Blynn (New Milford, Conn.) and sophomore
Kadin Talho (Waterbury, Conn.) each buried goals to lead the Western Connecticut State University men's soccer squad to a 2-0 shutout victory over Nichols College on the opening day of the MCLA Tournament at Shewcraft Field on Saturday afternoon.
With the win, WestConn improved to 2-0 overall, while Nichols dropped to 1-1.
After a scoreless opening half, the Wolves drew first blood when Talho netted his first goal of the season off a nifty feed from rookie
Filipe Dutra (Naugatuck, Conn.). Things proceeded to get chippy in the ensuing minutes before WestConn hit for an insurance marker.
This time Blynn took a pass from junior
Kent Eannarino (Brookfield, Conn.) and tickled the twine in the 85th minute of play.
Sophomore
Matthew Silva (Danbury, Conn.) and rookie
Zachary Benson (Milford, Conn.) split time shielding the WestConn goal en route to three saves.
The Wolves return to action for Day Two of the tournament when they match up against Eastern Nazarane College at 4:45 p.m.
