Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Talho Nets Game-Winner as Wolves Down Lehman

DANBURY, Conn. – Sophomore midfielder Kadin Talho (Waterbury, Conn.) tallied the lone goal of the game to lift the Western Connecticut State University men's soccer team to a 1-0 victory over visiting non-conference foe Lehman College on Thursday night at the Westside Athletic Complex.

It marked the fifth shutout win of the season for the Wolves, who improved to 9-0 overall, while the Lightning dropped to 2-3-2.

WestConn had a pair of high-quality scoring opportunities in the first half. However, a header from sophomore Jordan Dacosta (Jamaica, N.Y.) sailed just wide of the twine in the 18th minute of play before yet another header from senior Marc Kyriakidis (Sleepy Hollow, N.Y.) just missed connecting before halftime.

The Wolves pierced the scoring column in the 52nd minute for the game-winner. Sophomore Daniel Russo (Trumbull, Conn.) booted a beautiful pass from outside the top of the box to a streaking Talho, who knocked the header past the Lehman netminder. Talho now has three goals on the season.

The hosts continued the header barrage off several nifty cross attempts. However, they were unable to get another over the goal line. Lehman's best chance to net the equalizer was thwarted when junior backer George Cortes (Fairfield, Conn.) broke up a rush, stealing the ball and sending it the other way midway thru the stanza.

Senior goalkeeper Justin Figueiredo (Newtown, Conn.) got the start for the Wolves and recorded one save, while sophomore Matthew Silva (Danbury, Conn.) earned the win in relief while notching two stops. Senior netminder Demiraldo Grunasi (Florence, Italy) took the loss and turned aside two shots for the Lightning.

WestConn will look to extend the win streak to double digits when they travel to Little East Conference nemesis Keene State on Saturday at 1 p.m.
