Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Blynn Leads Wolves to 4-2 Victory Over Ramapo

DANBURY, Conn. – Senior forward Payton Blynn (New Milford, Conn.) tallied one goal and one assist to lead the Western Connecticut State University men's soccer team to a 4-2 victory over visiting non-conference opponent Ramapo College on Saturday afternoon at the Westside Athletic Complex.

Rookies Erik Lorent (Shelton, Conn.) and Nikolas Chevres (Miami, Fla.) combined with sophomore Jordan Dacosta (Jamaica, N.Y.) to also net goals for the Wolves.

Junior Osbin Mendez (Piscataway, N.J.) netted a scoring strike for the Roadrunners, while senior Jack Hosmer (Fanwood, N.J.) was also credited with a goal.

The hosts broke the ice less than eight minutes into the contest when Chevres took a cross from Blynn and knocked in a header that bounced across the goal line.

Moments later, WestConn misplayed a ball in their own end and the ball was headed into their own twine just before Hosmer tapped it across the stripe, evening the count at 1-1.

The Wolves retaliated shortly before halftime when Dacosta weaved his way past two defenders in the box and blasted a shot just under the crossbar to regain a 2-1 lead.

The Roadrunners evened the count once again 35 seconds into the second stanza. This time Mendez took a pass and booted home a rocket that snuck between the goalie's outstretched hands and the left post.

Lorent netted the game-winner with a header in the 59th minute before Blynn added an insurance tally in the 86th. Blynn and Chevres now lead the squad with three goals each.

WestConn rookie netminder Zachary Benson (Milford, Conn.) improved to 3-0 and finished with three saves. Ramapo first-year goalie Dilan Solorzano (North Haledon, N.J.) dropped to 0-1 and recorded six stops.

With the win, the Wolves improved to 4-0 overall, while the Roadrunners fell to 0-3-1. WestConn returns to action when they host yet another non-league foe. They meet Westfield State on Monday at 6 p.m.
