DANBURY, Conn. - Wolves senior goalie
Kayla Hnasko (Raritan, N.J.) made eight saves, but the Western Connecticut State University field hockey team dropped a 2-0 decision to visiting Westfield State University at the Westside Athletic Complex on sunny Saturday afternoon.
It was the Little East Conference opener for both teams. The Owls improved to 3-1 overall while WestConn even its record at 2-2 in the early going.
The Owls scored both of their goals before intermission then held on for the victory.
Junior midfielder Emily Martin put Westfield State on the scoreboard with her team-leading seventh marker of the year. She was set up by a short pass in the middle in the sixth minute of play.
With 3:55 remaining in the first half, Leah Pierce deposited her second goal of her sophomore campaign. Kaleigh Murphy registered the assist on the final tally.
Junior cage keeper Paige Reisman was not challenged in goal while her teammates finished with a 17-5 shot advantage on Saturday.
The Wolves, now 2-2 overall and 0-1 in the LEC, host Ramapo College in a non-conference affair this Wednesday, September 14. Game time with the Roadrunners is slated for 4 pm.
