POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. - Junior midfielder
Kent Eannarino (Brookfield, Conn.) scored in the 12th minute and the Western Connecticut State University men's soccer team held on to defeat Vassar College, 1-0 at Gordon Field in the season opener for both teams at Gordon Field Thursday afternoon.
Freshman midfielder
Drityll Gashi (Plantsville, Conn.) rattled off the initial shot that was poked away by Brewer goalie Eric Wnorowski, but Eannarino was there for the carom.
WestConn, 1-0, used a pair of goalies in the victory.
Matthew Silva (Danbury, Conn.) made a pair of saves in the first 45 minutes before yielding way to freshman
Zachary Benson (Milford, Conn.) or the second half. Benson did not have to make a stop for the winners.
Wnorowski made three saves for Vassar, which falls to 0-1 in the early going.
The Wolves finished with a slim 8-7 shot advantage on the day.

Joe Mingachos' squad travels to the MCLA Tournament this weekend and will take on Nichols College on Saturday, September 3 at 4:30 pm. On Sunday morning, the Wolves will face Eastern Nazarene College in the round-robin affair. Game time is set for 11 am in North Adams, Mass.
