DeMarsico Drains Four Goals in Shutout Over RIC, 19-0

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Senior attack Dominique DeMarsico (Danbury, Conn.) tallied a game-high four goals and one assist to guide the Western Connecticut State University women's lacrosse team to a 19-0 shutout victory at Rhode Island College in the Little East Conference opener for both teams on Saturday afternoon.

Junior Colleen Foley (Kingston, Mass.) and Alexa Riggio (Massapequa, N.Y.) each contributed hat tricks, while classmate Jaymee Alfonso (Danbury, Conn.) chipped in with two goals and two assists.

As the score would indicate, WestConn dominated in all facets of the contest. They outshot the hosts by a 32-5 margin while holding a 17-13 advantage in ground balls.

DeMarsico got things started with her 18th goal of the campaign less than a minute into the game. She completed the hat trick moments later as WestConn would lead 8-0 heading into the second quarter.

Junior Meghan Lorenzen (Stony Brook, N.Y.) joined the scoring party 29 seconds before halftime, widening the WCSU gap to 14-0. It marked her first goal of the season.

WestConn continued to pour it on in the second half. Rookie Hayley Romeo (Lindenhurst, N.Y.) highlighted the third with her first career collegiate goal.

With the win, WCSU improved to 6-2 overall and 1-0 in league play, while the Anchorwomen dropped to 0-4 and 0-1. WestConn returns to action tomorrow when they host non-conference opponent Springfield College at 1 p.m.
