Gracy Buries Five in Win at Worcester State, 10-6

WORCESTER, Mass. - Sophomore attacker Vicky Gracy (Bethel, Conn.) continued her stellar start to the season as she tallied a game-high five goals to guide the Western Connecticut State University women's lacrosse squad to a 10-6 victory at non-conference foe Worcester State University on Saturday afternoon.

Senior attacker Dominique DeMarsico (Danbury, Conn.) - also off to a great start - chipped in with a hat trick and one assist, while junior Alexa Riggio (Massapequa, N.Y.) and senior Katelyn Contreras (Danbury, Conn.) each contributed with a goal apiece.

WestConn junior goalkeeper Anna Schipf (Babylon, N.Y.) was solid as she shielded the twine for nine saves, while Worcester State goalie Savanna Rosado kept her squad in the game, turning aside 23 shots.

The visitors outshot the hosts by a count of 39-21. The defensive pressure also forced the Lancers into 19 turnovers while WCSU lost the rock just 12 times.

Worcester State got on the board first as Lily Gendron connected on her seventh goal of the season. However, WestConn responded with a four-goal flurry to seize a 4-1 advantage to end the opening quarter. DeMarsico would put the starting and finishing touches on the run.

The Lancers would rally in the second as they trimmed the WCSU lead to 5-4 midway through the period. But the visitors would maintain a 7-5 gap at the break.

Once again, the hosts would slice the deficit to a goal in the third. However, WestConn retaliated with a three-goal spurt. DeMarsico completed the hat trick with a player advantage before Gracy rounded the day out with another pair for the 10-6 win.

WestConn stretched its win streak to three as they improved to 3-0 overall, while Worcester State dropped to 2-1. WCSU will get back at it when they host non-conference opponent Western New England University on Wednesday at 7 p.m.
