CORTLAND, N.Y. - Despite four goals apiece from senior
Dominique DeMarsico (Danbury, Conn.) and sophomore
Vicky Gracy (Bethel, Conn.), the Western Connecticut State University women's lacrosse team fell at 24th-ranked SUNY Cortland, 17-8, on Friday night. With the loss, WestConn dropped its second straight contest and moved to 5-2 overall, while the Red Dragons improved to 2-4.

Meghan Lorenzen (Stony Brook/Ward Melville) finished with four draws and three caused turnovers.
The teams split the first four goals before a three-goal Cortland run gave the Red Dragons a 5-2 lead late in the first quarter. Gracy's first goal of the game cut the WestConn deficit to 5-3 after 15 minutes of play. Lauren Hopsicker made it a 6-3 score before back-to-back goals from Amy Hoeffner put Cortland ahead 8-3 at the 6:04 mark of the second quarter. Gracy netted her second goal at 5:23, but the visitors would not score again until the fourth quarter as the Red Dragons pulled away.
Toni Cashman and Keech netted goals to close the first half with Cortland up, 10-4. The lead grew to 14-4 after three quarters as Keech, Cashman, Rachel Janis and Hopsicker each scored. Gracy ended the Western Connecticut St. scoring drought with her goal at 11:22 of the fourth quarter. After Janis gave Cortland back its 10-goal advantage with her second goal to make it a 15-5 game, the visitors netted three of the last four goals for the 17-8 final.
WestConn will look to rebound when they travel to Rhode Island College for their Little East Conference opener on Saturday, April 2 at 1 p.m.
