Box Score 2 NAPLES, Fla. - Freshman
Carly Cordova (East Haven, Conn.) went 3-for-4, drove in four runs, had a double and scored three runs as the Western Connecticut State University softball team cruised to a five-inning 18-3 victory over SUNY Canton on Monday morning. In the second game, WestConn was held to three hits and fell to SUNY Oneonta, 5-2.
WestConn pounded out 18 hits with
Sydney Chenoweth (Baldwinville, Mass.) going 3-for-4 with a double, a pair of RBI and touching the dish twice.
Other multiple hit came from Nicole Antonwicz (Wolcott, Conn.),
Amber Roggendorf (Great Neck, N.Y.) and
Jada Miconi (North Branford, Conn.) each credited with a pair of hits. Antonowicz had a double and triple and scored two runs.
Freshman
Olivia Bordenaro (Cortlandt Manor, N.Y.) collected her first pitching victory on Monday. In four innings, she allowed two unearned runs on four hits and struck out six. She also had a hit and scored a run for the winners.
Against the Red Dragon,
Camille Corrado (West Hartford, Conn.) and
Rachael Ushka (Southbury, Conn.) scored unearned runs in the third and fourth innings for WestConn's only runs. Corrado scored on a double steal.
Cordova, Miconi and Roggendorf each had singles in the loss to Oneonta.
Karly Vito (Holbrook, N.Y.) suffered the loss after allowing five runs, four of them earned in an inning and a third to start the game.
WestConn is now 4-4 while the Red Dragons improve to 2-4 on the season.
WestConn faces Skidmore College (1 pm) and SUNY Brockport (3 pm) on Tuesday, March 15.
