Box Score 2 NAPLES, Fla. - The Western Connecticut State University softball team raced out to an 8-0 lead then held on to defeat University of Pittsburgh Bradford, 8-7 to open action in the early morning on Saturday. In a rain storm approaching the noon hour, WestConn fell to Rockford University, 8-4.
In the opener,
Faith Faber (New Hampton (N.Y.) went 4-for-4, belted her first collegiate home run, drove in three runs and scored three times against the Panthers.
Nicole Antonowicz (Wolcott, Conn.) and
Karly Vito (Holbrook, N.Y.)each had two hits as WestConn scattered 10 hits.
Sarah Milyko (Goshen, N.Y.) earned the victory after allowing just five hits over the first four innings. She is now 2-0 on the year.
Hailey Golembiewski (Columbia, Conn.) earned the save after closing the door over the final inning and a third. She allowed just one hit, struck out two and walked one.
The Panthers are now 3-11 with a pair of games remaining in its southern swing.
Against Rockford, freshman corner infielder Amber Roggendor (Great Neck, N.Y.) went 3-for-3 with two doubles and two RBI.
Antonowicz continued her hot hitting, going 2-for-2 with a pair of runs batted in.

Madison Zicchinelli (Miller Place, N.Y.) also had two hits for WestConn, which is now 3-3 in the early going.
Golembiewski suffered the loss and is now 1-2 from the mound. She allowed five runs, two of them earned, struck out three and walked two.
WestConn will enjoy a day off on Sunday, return to action on Monday against two SUNY schools. It opens the day against Canton at 9 am before facing Oneonta at 11 am.
WestConn's defense committed eight errors against the Regents.
