Eannarino Nets Goal And Dishes Out An Assist In Win Over Plymouth State

DANBURY, Conn. - Junior midfielder Kent Eannarino (Brookfield, Conn.) scored a goal and assisted on another as the Western Connecticut State University men's soccer team extended its win streak to 13 games with a 2-0 victory over Plymouth State University at the Westside Athletic Complex on Saturday afternoon.

Eannarino scored from 15 yards out on the left side of the box following a crossing pass from Erik Lorent (Shelton, Conn.) from the far right side of the field.  Senior Payton Blynn (New Milford, Conn.) failed to get a boot on the ball before it found Eannarino open behind him.

Despite finishing with a 20-5 advantage in shot attempts, the Wolves could not put away an insurance tally until Ian Mounts (Middletown, Conn.) deposited his first collegiate goal with 5:46 left in the second half.  He was set up with a short pass from Eannarino.

Plymouth State, now 4-5-2 overall and 1-3-1 in the Little East Conference, had its best chance to tie the game in the 72nd minute by David Nilsson's wide-open attempt on the left side was gobbled up by WestConn's freshman keeper Zachary Benson (Milford, Conn.)

Benson finished with four saves and improves to 10-0 between the pipes.  It was his third shut out of the season and eight time that the Wolves, behind stellar play in the back third by Filipe Dutra (Naugatuck, Conn.), Gustavo Medina (Naguatuck, Conn.) George Cortes (Fairfield, Conn.) and Nick Chevres (Miami, Fla.) have held their opponents scoreless.

Nicolas Cornejo made five saves for the Panthers on Saturday.

WestConn, which sits atop the conference at 5-0, gets right back at it tomorrow when it faces non-conference foe United States Merchant Marine Academy at 1 pm.
