MANHATTAN, N.Y. - Seven different players found the back of the net as the 17th ranked Western Connecticut State University men's soccer team breezed past host Pratt Institute, 8-0, in a non-league matchup at Randall's Island Park on Wednesday night.
Rookie forward
Maximus Vigo (Canton, Mich.) tallied the final two goals on the evening to lead the Wolves in scoring with a pair, both assisted via junior midfielder
Andrew Restrepo (Bridgeport, Conn.).
The visitors got things started when senior forward
Franz Muhaj (Bridgeport, Conn.) fired a shot that banked off the right post for his sixth marker on the year. Classmate
Payton Blynn (New Milford, Conn.) followed up it up when he took a pass from Muhaj, evaded the Pratt goalie, and chipped a shot into the open net, good for his team-leading 10th tally of the campaign.
The Wolves barrage continued in the first half as rookie
Filipe Dutra (Naugatuck, Conn.) and junior
Masai Castillero Gomez (Norwalk, Conn.) each tickled the twine, stretching the advantage to 4-0.
WestConn would add another four scoring strikes in the second half. Sophomore Jordan DaCosta (Jamaica, N.Y.) dribbled past a pair of defenders and connected before sophomore forward
Marcus Mason (South River, N.J.) picked off a Pratt throw-in attempt and scored his first goal of the year. Vigo then rounded out the scoring with a pair to make it 8-0.
With the win, the Wolves improved to 18-0-1 overall while the Cannoneers dropped to 1-12-2. WestConn wraps up the regular season slate at LEC foe Southern Maine on Saturday at 1 p.m. They receive a first round bye before hosting an LEC Postseason semifinal matchup on Thursday.
