GORHAM, Maine - Sophomores
Kadin Talho (Waterbury, Conn.) and
Gustavo Medina (Naugatuck, Conn.) each scored to propel the 17th-ranked Western Connecticut State University men's soccer team to a 2-0 win at the University of Southern Maine in a Little East Conference matchup on Saturday afternoon.
With the win, the Wolves wrapped up the regular season slate at 19-0-1 overall and 8-0 in league play. The Huskies dropped to 6-5-7 and 1-4-3.
The visitors controlled the tempo as they outshot the hosts by a 21-4 margin. Medina tallied his first goal of the season off a feed from classmate
Daniel Russo (Trumbull, Conn.) in the 17th minute of play.
They would add an insurance goal midway thru the second half when Talho earned his sixth goal of the campaign when he took a pass from senior
Payton Blynn (New Milford, Conn.) and found the back of the net. Blynn nearly added to his team-leading goals total. However, his shot banged off the post.
The Wolves hold the No. 1 seed in the upcoming LEC Postseason Tournament. They receive a first round bye and will host and LEC semifinals matchup on Thursday. The quarterfinal round begins on Tuesday with the league championship game scheduled for Saturday.Â
