FITCHBURG, Mass. - Despite goals from juniors Allesia Callahan (Glassboro, N.J.) and
Sydney Chenoweth (Baldwinville, Mass.), the Western Connecticut State University field hockey squad fell at Fitchburg State University, 4-2, in a Little East Conference matchup on Tuesday night at Elliott Field.
With the loss, the Wolves dropped to 5-10 overall and 2-8 in league play, while the Falcons improved to 10-6 and 8-3.Â
The hosts jumped out to a 2-0 lead as Sophia Yates found the back of the net just 3:11 into the opening quarter. Shortly thereafter, Lena Kassel notched the first of her three goals on the evening at the 13:07 mark.Â
Callahan sliced the deficit to 2-1 less than two minutes later when she buried her eighth goal of the season. Kassel would score unassisted before Chenoweth answered with her fourth of the campaign to make it 3-2. Kassel would find the back of the net once again, unassisted, completing the hat trick for her 31st goal of the year, rounding the contest out at 4-2.
WestConn returns to action on Thursday for another LEC tilt at UMass Dartmouth before wrapping the regular season slate up at Plymouth State on Saturday.Â
