Samantha Larkin (Wallingford, Conn.) scored the game-winning goal off a free kick from
Myah Croze (Bristol, Conn.) to left the Wolves to a thrilling 2-1 victory over University of Massachusetts Dartmouth on Saturday afternoon.
WestConn improves to 10-4-1 overall, are now 5-0-1 in the Little East Conference and extend its unbeaten streak to nine games (8-0-1).
Larkin was instrumental on WestConn's first goal of the game as she was the second assist on
Julia DePalma's (Kings Park, N.Y.) first tally of the season. Junior
Hannah Daly (Newtown, Conn.) started the play from the corner with a lofting pass to the middle for Larkin.
UMass Dartmouth, now 3-10-1 overall and 1-5-0 in the league, took a 1-0 lead in the 18th minute when Kaitlyn Duarte (New Bedford, Mass.) drilled home a short pass in the middle from Kait Bernier (Dartmouth, Mass.). It was Duarte's second marker of the season.
The Wolves finished with a slim edge, 16-14 in shots at goal and took all four of the game's corner kicks.
Senior goalie
Kristen Roessler (Danbury, Conn.) earned the victory in goal for WestConn after making six saves.
Sophomore Madison Durkin (Cumberland, R.I.) also turned away six shots including a pair of stellar scoring chance from Wolves' sophomore sensation Suzanna Imetowvski (Seymour, Conn.) in the second half.
WestConn will host non-conference foe Wesleyan University this Tuesday, October 18. Game time is slated for 7 pm.
The Corsairs take on Westfield State University, also on Tuesday at 7 pm, in North Dartmouth, Mass. Â
