Men's Soccer

21st-Ranked Wolves Blank UMass Dartmouth, 4-0

Box Score DARTMOUTH, Mass. - Senior midfielder Payton Blynn (New Milford, Conn.) netted two goals and dished out an assist to propel the 21st-ranked Western Connecticut State University men's soccer team to a 4-0 victory at UMass Dartmouth in a Little East Conference matchup on Saturday afternoon.

The nationally ranked Wolves improved to 15-0-1 and 6-0-0 in the conference, while the Corsairs dropped to 0-8-5 and 0-5-1.

WestConn scored twice in the first half and two more times in the second half.

The Wolves struck first in the third minute when senior Blynn scored from junior Kent Eannarino (Brookfield, Conn.). It only took until the 15th minute for junior Franz Muhaj (Bridgeport, Conn.) to make it a 2-0 game off an assist from Blynn on a corner kick.

UMass Dartmouth's defense stepped up and did not allow a goal for the remainder of the half.

Freshman Jake Provoyeur had the best opportunity for the Corsairs in the 47th minute. Provoyeur looked to have a wide open net, but a WestConn defender raced in to kick the ball away just before it crossed the line.

WestConn's freshman Erik Lorent (Shelton, Conn.) scored on a penalty kick in the 54th minute. The final goal of the day came from Blynn in the 61st minute to finish things off, good for his team-leading ninth goal of the season.

The Wolves will look to advance up the rankings when they host Trinity College on Wednesday at 7 p.m.
