WestConn's Santana Claims United Soccer Coaches All-Region Award

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Western Connecticut State University sophomore Nickolas Santana (New Haven, Conn.) earned United Soccer Coaches All-Region I Second-Team on Tuesday.

Santana was also named the Little East Conference (LEC) 2025 men's soccer Offensive Player of the Year, while first-year Matthews Rocha (Danbury, Conn.) earned LEC Rookie of the Year honors. Santana, Rocha, and five of their teammates were also recognized on the All-Conference Teams on Tuesday. 

Santana was selected to the All-Conference First Team as a forward, joined by junior Jeffrey Norales (Bronx, N.Y.) as a midfielder and junior Enzo Lagrassa-Gillet (Miami Beach, Fla.) as a defender. Rocha was named to the LEC All-Conference Second Team as a forward, along with rookie Juan Gomez Herrera (Brentwood, N.Y.) as a midfielder, senior Nikolas Chevres (Miami, Fla.), and junior Aidan Roxo (Danbury, Conn.) as defenders. 

Santana led the Wolves with a team-high 19 goals, including six game-winners, and added five assists for a team-best 43 points on 31 shots on goal. He appeared in 21 of 22 games, making 19 starts. A graduate of Notre Dame High School, Santana is majoring in criminal justice at WestConn. 

Rocha, a Danbury High School graduate, appeared in 21 games and made 14 starts during his first season with the Wolves. He recorded seven goals, three assists and 17 points, including one game-winning goal. 

Norales appeared in 21 games, starting 20, and finished the season with one goal, seven assists, and nine points on eight shots on goal. He was previously named to the LEC All-Conference Second Team (2024) and the United Soccer Coaches All-Region Third Team (2024). A graduate of Urban Assembly Media Studies High School, Norales is majoring in cybersecurity at WestConn. 

Lagrassa-Gillet started 18 of 21 games and recorded one goal for two points, with four shots on goal. He earned LEC Academic Honor Roll (2023, 2024) and LEC Fall All-Academic Team (2024) recognition. A Miami Country Day School graduate, Lagrassa-Gillet is majoring in sports management. 

Gomez Herrera appeared in 21 games, starting 19, and totaled three goals, five assists, and 11 points, with 17 shots on goal. He is a Brentwood High School graduate and is majoring in financial management at WestConn. 

Chevres started 20 of 22 games and contributed one goal, three assists, and five points, with 11 shots on goal. He is a 2023 CSC Academic All-District honoree and a member of the LEC Academic Honor Roll (2022–2024) and LEC Fall All-Academic Team (2023, 2024). A Biotech Richmond High School graduate, Chevres is majoring in business management. 

Roxo appeared in 20 games, making 18 starts, and finished with one goal, six assists, and eight points, along with 10 shots on goal. He graduated from Danbury High School and is majoring in finance. 

WestConn, led by Head Coach Joe Mingachos in his tenth season, concluded the 2025 campaign with a 13-6-3 overall record and a perfect 8-0 mark in conference play, earning the LEC regular-season title and competing in the LEC Championship Final.
